Faculty Introduction
I am Cynthia Halstead, a former Assistant Professor at BC, based at the South Campus, now an adjunct because I now live in the beautiful State of Tennessee. I hold an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management, a Bachelor's Degree in English, and a Master's Degree in Multicultural Education. I enjoy the study of words and how they are formed and used by diverse cultures around the world.
Course Description
ENC1101 is a writing course where we will explore writing in a visual age. We will look at visual perception and how we can manipulate our perception in writing as well as in pictures. We will look at artists from all genres and explore how they changed their world. We will communicate with one another and discover how our worlds are different and yet so similar.
Methods of Instruction
This fully online course is structured to be an independent but integrated class. There will be discussion boards that will require regular responses. In addition, there will be four (4) papers written about the assignments from the textbook. This is a 3-credit hour course or 48 hours per term. These courses usually meet two to three times per week with out-of-class assignments that require 2-3 hours, so plan to give the amount of time to this course that it deserves. There are no tests, but with the four papers and the responses required on the discussion boards, your assessment will be determined by your promptness and participation.

Course Requirements
Students who are new to e-learning should take BC's online readiness evaluation.

How to Login once you are Enrolled in this Course
I will open the course for enrolled/paid students on the start date given by BC at 8:00 am. At that time, log into the Blackboard system on the BC home page, and find the courses you have enrolled in. Click on your ENC 1101 course and choose the Start Here button on the home page. In that section, I have outlined all the steps you need to take to complete your orientation into the course. You do not have to attend an orientation course on-campus unless you feel you need extra help getting logged into Blackboard. The BC HelpDesk is very helpful.
There may be a delay of up to 36 hours from when a students registers and pays before Blackboard login is activated. Obtain BC email user ID and PIN code before attempting to login to Blackboard.
